Benue State Civil Servants Set to Disrupt Inauguration Over Unpaid Salaries
For
refusing to pay them their five months salaries, Benue State civil
servants have vowed to ‘disgrace’ the outgoing governor, Gabriel Suswam
on Friday.
Feelers reaching from Makurdi, the
Benue State capital have it that the enraged civil servants have
conclude plans to give Suswam a farewell ‘blow’ when he will hand over
to the incoming Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom on Friday.
According to sources, their reason might not be unconnected with Suswam’s refusal to pay their salaries for months.
Insiders
claimed that some Benue workers have concluded plans to storm IBB
Square, the venue of the handover ceremony, with live pigs in mockery of
Suswam.
It will be recalled that in September 2009, Suswam was in
the news after he was allegedly caught with 47 billion naira in the US
and when asked what he was doing with that kind of amount, he said he
wanted to buy pigs for the state.
Speaking with newsmen on
Thursday, a visibly angry civil servant, who gave his name as Adole,
said he will not miss anything about the outgoing governor.
“Did you say miss? As far as we are concerned, nobody will miss Suswam. It is indeed farewell to sadness and poverty,” he said.
